I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever;…Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life and…remains in me and I in him. (John 6:51, 54, 56)
First communion is generally celebrated in 2nd grade. If your child is older, don't worry! We will make sure s/he has a celebration that reflects and appreciates his/her age. If your child attends Catholic School, preperation for the sacrament is part of the day-to-day class material. If your child attends a public or other private school, please contact our Director of Religious Education, Meghan Cade, about our Religious Education program ([email protected] or 703-772-7917). First Communion is usually scheduled for the first Saturday in May.
If you are an adult and have never recieved First Communion, please contact St. John Vianney Parish about their RCIA program (802-864-4166).
By the consecration the transubstantiation of the bread and wine into the Body and Blood of Christ is brought about. Under the consecrated species of bread and wine Christ himself, living and glorious, is present in a true, real, and substantial manner: his Body and his Blood, with his soul and his divinity.
